Erik Nedeau is the undisputed king of middle distance running in Maine. His bronze medal at the 1995 World Indoor 1500 is the only medal ever won by a Maine man at a world championship.

"Ned" started his track career as a sprinter/hurdler /jumper. At Kennebunk High School Ned was a Junior Olympic medallist in both the 400 Hurdles and Decathlon, and won six Maine State Championships. In 1989 he set Maine State Records in the 300 yards indoors, and the 400 meters outdoors, becoming the first Maine high schooler under 50 seconds for the 400. At Northeastern University, Ned gradually moved up to the 800 and then 1500 meters. He was a five-time NCAA All-American in the 800 & 1500, along with qualifying individually for the NCAA cross country championships. He won twelve New England titles, and two IC4A titles. He placed second at the NCAA Championships in 1994. Nedeau set Northeastern school records at 800 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters, and the Mile. Nedeau has been ranked in the top ten Americans six times by Track & Field News over the 800 and 1500. He was the first runner from Maine to run a sub four minute mile. Ned's greatest race was the 1995 World Indoor Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
