Sammy Pelletier held the Maine Marathon record for 38 years.

At UMaine, Pelletier ran 9:12 for 2 Miles and excelled in cross country.
After college he increased his training to 130-140 miles per week.
In 1982 he ran 2:16:34 for second place at Philadelphia
The following year he won the Philadelphia Marathon, clocking 2:15:26, a Maine record.
He had the privilege of serving as a Captain in the United States Army from 1984-1988 at the United States Military Academy at West Point. While there, he served as an Optometrist and as an Army Distance Runner, competing both nationally and internationally.
Pelletier also set a course record that exists to this day at the Portland Boys Club 5 Miler, in 1984 when he ran 23:33. His PR's for other road distances include: 29:16 for 10K; 48:48 for 10 miles; and 1:04:30 for the half marathon at the Philadelphia Distance Run.
Pelletier also ran in the 1984 Olympic Trials Marathon.
